How to Transfer Photos from your Android Phone to Mac

With the rise of social media apps comes the rise of taking photos. Anyone with a smartphone takes tons of pictures every week. Which means smartphone storage is a huge issue these days! Deleting apps and photos to make more space isn’t the efficient way to go either.

It’s best practice to periodically clean out your smartphone and transfer photos to either a cloud storage app or your laptop, PC, or Mac.

If you’re an Android user with a Mac, this article is dedicated to you. Here are a few ways you can transfer your smartphone photos & videos to your Mac in no time flat:

Dumpster is an Android app that allows you to undelete or restore any deleted photo, video, document, audio, or file on your smartphone or tablet. It also works as a cloud storage app! Meaning, you’ll never lose a photo again if you use it.

To sync photos to your Mac with Dumpster all you need to do is install Dumpster on your Android smartphone and utilize it’s cloud storage capabilities.

Once your photos are completely loaded on the Dumpster Cloud, you can log into your account on your Mac and visit the Dumpster Cloud page to view any of your files.

Connect Your Device via Android File Transfer

A web-based platform you can use to move your photos to and from devices is Android File Transfer. This is the more typical way to begin the process of transferring your photos.

All you really need to do is install the app on your Mac ( OS X 10.5 or later), and once installed connect your devices with a USB cable. Once the connection has been established, the phone will typically appear as a drive on your computer.

To start transferring the pictures from your smartphone, here are the easy steps:

  1. Connect your phone to your Mac’s USB port using the former’s charging cable.
  2. Open the Mac Finder on your computer.
  3. Search for the Android File Transfer on the list of available drives.
  4. Click on the Android drive icon.

Once you complete the fourth step a file should open to display your photo content. All you need to do is just import them to your Mac Photos to view them.

Sync Photos from Android to Mac with Google Photos

Another extremely easy way to move photos to and from your Android to your Mac is to use Google Photos. Google makes the process almost seamless and instant.

Want to automatically save any Google Photos photos to your Mac? Here are the simple steps:

  1. Download Google’s Photos Uploader on your Mac
  2. Download the Google Drive sync app on your Mac
  3. Open Google Drive on a web browser. Select the Google Photos option.
  4. Navigate to the setting on Google Photos while you’re using Google Drive. Double check and confirm that ‘Create Google Photos folder’ is enabled.
  5. To begin the file transfer/syncing process, open your Mac’s Google Drive settings. When you’re there, check to see if the Google Photos folder in your Google Drive is selected.

Note that when you set this up, storage on Google Drive will start building up. If you don’t want to take up space on Google Drive, it may be best to simply store the photos on Google Photos that way you can utilize unlimited storage.
